How to set up Win-Back texts after a purchase in CartBoss

A win-back campaign texts customers after they buy, to bring them back; in CartBoss, Win-Back texts go out a set time after each paid order. Texts are paid from your balance; prices: pricing page.

Before you begin

  • Your store must be connected and show Active on the Sites page.
  • Your checkout must collect the customer's phone number. Win-Back texts go only to orders with a phone number.
  • Have funds in your balance.

Add a Win-Back message

  1. In your CartBoss dashboard, click Win-Back in the left menu, under Messaging.
  2. Click Add custom message.

Set when it is sent

  1. Under Delay, choose Enable delay (recommended).
  2. Under Wait for, type a number and choose Minute/s, Hour/s, Day/s or Month/s. For example, 30 Day/s. The wait starts when the order is paid.

Add an offer (optional)

  1. Under Discount, choose Enable special offer (recommended), then a Discount type: Percentage, Fixed amount, Free shipping or Custom coupon. The discount rides on the link in your text and is applied to the customer's cart. See How to add a discount to your texts.
  2. Under Website targeting, keep Active on all my websites (default), or include or exclude stores.

Set the rules (optional)

  1. Under Order value limit, choose Always send, Only send at or above a value or Only send below a value.
  2. Under Smart sending, choose Skip if messaged recently to skip customers who got a text from you in the last 3 to 90 days.

Both rules are checked when the order is paid, not when the text goes out.

Write the text

  1. Under Default message, write your text. Click a shortcode below the box to add it.
  2. Add a link, so the customer has something to open: the {SiteUrl} shortcode, or a full web address you type, such as a product page (see How to send a Win-Back text that links to a product or page in CartBoss).
  3. Under Message translations, add a version for each language you sell in (optional; see How to send texts in your customer's language).
  4. Click Save at the top right.

Win-Back messages have these shortcodes:

  • {FirstName} and {LastName}: the customer's name, when the order has one.
  • {SiteName}: your store's Site name.
  • {SiteUrl}: your store's address.
  • {DiscountCode}: the discount code, when the message has an offer.
  • {DiscountValue}: the size of a percentage discount, for example 15%.

Switch it on

  1. Go back to Win-Back. A new message is saved Off. Click its switch in the Status column so it shows On.

What happens next

  • Every paid order with a phone number starts the Win-Back messages that are On, each after its own delay.
  • Each paid order starts its own texts. A later purchase does not cancel a Win-Back text that is already waiting.
  • A purchase subscribes the customer again, even if they unsubscribed before. CartBoss treats a purchase as consent.
  • Win-Back texts follow the same sending rules as other texts: quiet hours, at most 4 texts per customer in 24 hours, your balance and your daily spend limit.
  • The Revenue and Orders columns count a purchase on the same store within 24 hours after a text.

Questions

Can I send more than one Win-Back text after a purchase?

Yes. Add several messages with different delays, for example 7 days and 30 days, and switch them all On.

Why can't I use {CheckoutUrl} in a Win-Back text?

There is no open cart after a purchase. Use {SiteUrl} or type a full link instead.

I get "Turn off the discount or add a link".

The discount is created when the customer opens a link, so a message with an offer needs {SiteUrl} or a typed web address in the default message.

A customer didn't get a Win-Back text. Why?

Check that the order had a phone number and that the message is On. For the full checklist, see How to find out why a shopper didn't get a CartBoss text.
