How to connect your Shopify store to CartBoss

To connect your Shopify store to CartBoss, install the CartBoss app from the Shopify App Store: your store connects by itself, with no API key to copy. Your CartBoss account is created for you.

The app is free to install. Texts are paid from your prepaid CartBoss balance; prices: pricing page.

Before you begin

  • Log in to your Shopify admin as the store owner or a staff member who can install apps.
  • CartBoss creates your account with your store's email address from Shopify. You log in to CartBoss with that address.

Install the CartBoss app

  1. Open the Shopify App Store and search for CartBoss, or go straight to https://apps.shopify.com/sms-abandoned-cart-cartboss.
  2. Click Install.
  3. Shopify shows what the app may access. Review it and confirm the install.
  4. Shopify opens the CartBoss app. When you see CartBoss Active, your store is connected.

Open your CartBoss dashboard

  1. In the CartBoss app, click Launch CartBoss. Your dashboard opens and you are logged in.
  2. Click Sites in the left menu. Your store is there and shows Active.

Later, you can open the dashboard the same way: in your Shopify admin, open Apps, click CartBoss, then Launch CartBoss. Or go to app.cartboss.io, type your store's email address and enter the code we email you.

What happens next

  • CartBoss starts watching your checkout. When a shopper leaves a cart with a phone number, they get your recovery text.
  • A few minutes after the install, we send the organization owner a welcome email. It names the organization your store joined and has a button that opens your dashboard.
  • Your account starts with an empty balance. Add funds and turn on auto reload so texts can go out (see How to add funds, turn on auto reload and download invoices in CartBoss).
  • Your texts are sent with your store name. You can change it and other store settings on the Sites page (see How to add a store and choose its settings in CartBoss).

Recover more carts

CartBoss can only text shoppers who gave a phone number. In the CartBoss app, the Optimization tip... card has an Open Shop Settings button that takes you to your Shopify checkout settings, where you can ask for a phone number at checkout (see How to ask for a phone number at Shopify checkout so CartBoss can text abandoned carts). To ask shoppers for permission to send texts, see How to add the SMS consent checkbox to your Shopify checkout.

Questions

Do I need an API key?

No. Shopify stores connect when you install the app. API keys are only for WooCommerce stores.

What does a text cost?

It depends on the country. In your dashboard, open Billing and click SMS Pricing, or go to app.cartboss.io/pricing after you log in.

I already have a CartBoss account. What happens?

If your Shopify store email is the same as your CartBoss login, the store joins your account:

  • If one of your organizations already has this store on its Sites page, the store joins that organization and uses that site, with its messages and settings.
  • If none has it, the store joins your first organization.

If your Shopify store email is different, CartBoss creates a new account and organization for the store. To manage both with one login, see How to manage several stores, organizations and users in CartBoss.

I added my store on the Sites page before I installed the app. What happens?

If you added it with its Shopify address, for example yourstore.myshopify.com, the app connects to that same site. It does not matter if you typed it with or without https://, www or a slash at the end. If you added it with your own domain, for example www.yourstore.com, the app adds a second site, and the one you added stays Not tracking. Switch the extra one Off, or email us at support@cartboss.io.

My store joined the wrong organization. What do I do?

The welcome email names the organization. You can't move a store yourself. Email us at support@cartboss.io with the store address and the organization it should be in, and we'll move it.

Why doesn't the Launch CartBoss button log me in?

Close the app and open it again from Apps in Shopify. Or log in at app.cartboss.io with your store's email address.

I uninstalled the app by mistake. What now?

Install it again. Your store reconnects to the same site in CartBoss, with its messages and settings. To uninstall on purpose, see How to uninstall CartBoss from Shopify or WooCommerce.
