How to set up the CartBoss plugin in WooCommerce (phone field and consent checkbox)

To set up the CartBoss plugin in WooCommerce, open CartBoss in the WordPress menu, choose the phone field and consent options, then click Save changes. All plugin settings are on that one page.

Before you begin

Install and connect the plugin first (see How to connect your WooCommerce store to CartBoss). Then, in your WordPress admin, click CartBoss in the left menu. After a change, click Save changes.

Is my store connected?

The Connection card shows whether your store is connected. Paste your API key and click Connect here. Once connected, the button says Check again, which re-checks the connection. The status at the top tells you where you stand, for example Live — recovering carts or Connected — add funds to start sending.

How do I move the phone field to the top of the WooCommerce checkout?

Tick Move the phone field up to make the phone number the first field at checkout. Shoppers then type their number before they might leave, so CartBoss can text more of them. We recommend it for most stores.

The plugin does not make the phone field required. Whether shoppers must fill it in is a WooCommerce checkout setting.

How do I add a consent checkbox to the WooCommerce checkout?

Tick Show the marketing consent checkbox to add a checkbox at checkout where shoppers agree to receive your texts. Use it where the law requires explicit opt-in.

  • Checkbox text: the words next to the checkbox. The default is "Sign up for exclusive offers and news via text messages". If your store uses WPML, you can translate it.
  • To text only shoppers who opted in, also set Abandoned cart consent to Only visitors with explicit consent on your website in your CartBoss store settings (see How to text only shoppers who gave SMS consent in CartBoss).
  • On the WooCommerce checkout block, the checkbox needs WooCommerce 8.9 or newer. The plugin warns you if yours is older.

How do I stop CartBoss from texting me and my staff?

Under Skip these signed-in roles, tick the user roles CartBoss should ignore, for example Administrator or Shop manager. Then you and your staff don't get recovery texts when you test checkout or add orders by hand. No role is ticked by default.

What are error reports?

Send error reports to CartBoss is on by default. If the plugin fails, it sends us a short technical report so we can fix it. Customer data is masked out first. You can turn it off at any time.

Questions

How do I test my checkout?

Sign out of WordPress first, or use a private browser window. If your role is ticked under Skip these signed-in roles, CartBoss ignores you while you're signed in.

Where do I change the text messages?

In your CartBoss dashboard, not in the plugin (see How to set up abandoned cart text messages in CartBoss).
