How to unsubscribe a phone number (SMS opt-out) in CartBoss

To unsubscribe a phone number (SMS opt-out) in CartBoss, open Unsubscribe contact under Messaging and type the number with its country code. Customers can also unsubscribe themselves: every text CartBoss sends ends with a Stop link.

Unsubscribe a phone number

  1. In your CartBoss dashboard, click Unsubscribe contact in the left menu, under Messaging. A window opens.

  1. Under Phone number, type the number with its country code, for example +44 7700 900123. A number without the country code is read wrongly: CartBoss reads every number as international, so don't start with a 0.
  2. Click the Unsubscribe contact button in the window.

Unsubscribe contact window with a phone number filled in

You see "Phone number … successfully unsubscribed". From then on, this person gets no more texts from your organization, until something subscribes them again (see below). Texts already waiting to be sent to them are not sent either.

How customers unsubscribe themselves

Every text ends with "Stop" and a short link. When the customer opens it, they see the last digits of their phone number and an Unsubscribe button. After they tap it, they see "You have successfully unsubscribed". You don't need to do anything.

When is a contact subscribed again?

An unsubscribe is not permanent. An unsubscribed person is subscribed again when they:

  • leave a new cart on any of your stores whose Abandoned cart consent is set to All visitors (under Sites, with the pencil button Edit website),
  • tick the marketing box at checkout on any of your stores, or
  • buy from you. CartBoss treats a purchase as consent.

To text only shoppers who agreed, set your stores to Only visitors with explicit consent on your website (see How to text only shoppers who gave SMS consent). Even then, a tick at checkout or a purchase subscribes the person again. If you have questions, email support@cartboss.io.

Questions

"This phone number isn't in your contacts."

This number is not a contact of this organization, so there is nothing to unsubscribe. Check the country code. If you have more than one organization, switch to the one that sent the texts.

"invalid phone number format"

Type the number with a + and the country code, for example +386 40 123 456.

Does it work for all my stores?

Yes, for every site in the organization you are in. Other organizations are separate.

Is an unsubscribe permanent?

No. A new cart on an All visitors store, a tick at checkout or a purchase subscribes the person again.
